Resource Teachers: Literacy

Our service

The Resource Teacher: Literacy (RTLit) Service is funded by the Ministry of Education. It helps enable curriculum success for students with literacy difficulties who require specialist support in oral language, reading and writing (spelling and handwriting).

Our aim is to make a positive difference for students whose literacy difficulties are a barrier to their progress and achievement. We do this by providing access to specialist expertise in literacy teaching and learning. This support can be delivered directly to students or indirectly through work with teachers and school leaders.

Our teachers

RTLit are adaptive practice experts who use their knowledge of literacy acquisition, along with disciplined inquiry and sound evidence, to know which teaching approaches are most effective for which students in order to bring about accelerated progress.

The ways in which we work are aligned with and responsive to, evidenced-based research about what works best to raise achievement and improve the well-being of students requiring additional literacy support.
